Education and training

our gp trainees group photo

We have been a training practice since 1997 and are passionate about teaching & training our doctors of the future.

There are 3 trainers in the practice Dr McMorran, Dr Gill & Dr Hastings

They regularly go on bi-annual training updates to keep up to date on the ever changing needs of GP core training as outlined by the RCGP

Our training doctors are part of the School of General Practice HEE West Midlands teaching and training centre and we support an array of training doctors from FY2’s ST2 ST3’s

We encourage and support GP Trainees from all backgrounds and help to bring about a positive nurturing experience to their training time with us.

As an advanced training practice, we are often called upon to help support doctors who require a bit more extra support , we have had many success stories of doctors finally managing to complete their core training to become successful practising GP’s

They are highly experienced doctors who we are supporting in their training journey. You may be given an appointment to see or speak with them. They are well supported by all our senior doctors so they and you can be rest assured you are in safe hands.

We also host Warwick Medical School students and Keele University nursing students so they can experience an understanding of the demands of primary care

Dr Bradshaw , Dr Oyebolu & Dr Nijjar are all ex GP trainees of the practice , and have successfully joined the practice on their completion of training.

What our training doctors say …..

Dr Abeesh R Prasad ST3

I arrived at Kenyon at the beginning of February 2023, after 4 successive RCA failures. I was close to giving up and was on my last attempt at the exam.

I passed the RCA, in the April 2023 sitting.

To say Dr Herpal Gill and Dr Peter Hastings helped me through would be an understatement. They took onboard my ongoing struggles with the exam, created clinics so they could observe my technique and provided constructive feedback, in a manner I understood and helped correct my technique. They were patient with me, allowed me to set up clinics to my liking and helped reduce the ancillary workload (duties, paperwork and follow up results), allowing me to focus on the exam.

Kenyon Medical Centre has been instrumental in my RCGP success. I have no hesitation in recommending the practice to future GP trainees.

Dr Rhania Soloman ST3

“ I am very fortunate and grateful to be an ST3 at this practice. As a trainee with a hidden long-term health condition that can be unpredictable, I have felt supported and therefore had the environment I needed to pass my exam. Staff have been supportive, friendly and approachable”

Dr Laryn Peters FY2

I have recently started my FY2 placement at the practice. I have found the practice to be very supportive and provided my with opportunities to advance my learning!

Dr Hodon Abdi

The Kenyon medical Center team are extremely kind and supportive which is critical for a positive learning environment. I have enjoyed my time and learnt a lot.”

Mrs Chika Kanu

Student nurse Keele university:

“Kenyon Medical Centre is a lovely place to learn and grow. The staff are friendly and approachable.

There are so many opportunities to learn and gain a good understanding of primary care and preventive medicine.

I Learnt and acquired skills such as carrying out smear tests, wound care, baby immunisations, vaccines, health checks, travel vaccines, and weight management.

I also gained knowledge on diabetes management, minor surgeries, asthma, COPD management, and reviews.”

Other feedback from Warwick Medical students

Phase 2 placements

The students are asked for their feedback at the end of each block and we wanted to share with you how much the students have enjoyed their time at Kenyon Medical Centre.

“Offered us a wide range of patient encounters got us face to face consultations every week, were very considerate of our learning outcomes. Tried to teach us from every consultation and had us sit with many different people to understand their roles. Timetable well managed and good communication on changes”

“Enthusiastic doctors who are passionate to teach – Lots of patient exposure to aid our learning”

“Lots of patient contact, much more than the required 3 per day. Excellent experience with difficult patients but well supported by the GPs there”

“The GP practice great. The placement has been really well organised by Dr Hastings and we have been given lots of opportunities to see different HCPs and varied patients. The student led consultations have been useful in getting to grips with a slimmed down consultation process that is more realistic”

“The twenty-minute consultations are very useful, and our GP is aware of what we are meant to achieve during our time here”

CCE placements

“The GP days during this block were well organised and allowed us a lot of time to work on our history taking and exams. They had a clear timetable of what we were going to do each week.”

“GP was fantastic – lots of supervision and constructive feedback.”

“This was such a good practice to be based at. Dr Hastings and Dr Crellin are such good doctors and positive role models. I have learnt so much from them and picked up good habits in terms of medical practice and how to formulate a list of differential diagnoses and decide on appropriate investigations. We have the opportunity to lead our own consultations which is a beneficial learning experience for students. The more consultations we do, the better we become at our skill.”

“20 minute allocated student slots really helped, as it didn’t make us feel rushed.”

“Staff were friendly. We had a timetable before we started so we knew which practice and which doctor we were going to be with, which was very helpful. Got the opportunity to sit in with a doctor who performed minor ops and it was interesting to see the sort of procedures they did.” Staff were very friendly and supportive. They tried to push us more in this block to suggest management plans, investigations and come up with differential. They were good with getting patients they knew had signs to come back and see us so we could get the opportunity to see these signs. Was very useful and the staff were very accommodating. GP is the best teaching and practice opportunities we get in second year. Personally, I think we should have an extra day at GP a week.
